How Solar Panels Help Save Energy
In terms of environmental protection, solar power is often the go-to solution for people who want to reduce their negative impact on the planet. Whether it’s the lack of maintenance, the huge reduction in greenhouse gasses and harmful emissions, the potential reduction of pollution, or the fact that solar energy is fully renewable – the list of green benefits goes on when it comes to solar.
But environmental benefits aside – how can solar panels help you to save both energy, and cash?
How does the saving process work?
As you will probably be aware of already, solar energy is commonly captured from the sun via a solar collection system. Once this has been installed and the energy collected, the process of converting that captured energy into heat or electricity can begin in one of two ways:
- Solar Thermal conversion – This process tends to use a thermal collector in order to generate heat for housewarming using solar power. Also known as ‘indirect conversion’, this method has been slowly gaining in popularity in recent years.
- Photovoltaic Conversion (PV) – The most commonly used method currently used to generate solar energy, this involves the installation of either solar PV or solar panels for effective generation of electricity for the home.
How does this save me money?
Once you’ve installed solar panels in the home, remaining connected to the National Grid will mean that you no longer have to rely on it, but rather contribute and make money from it. A solar installation means that as a homeowner you can effectively become your own source of power. During periods of good weather conditions, solar panels can often harness more energy than is necessary – meaning that any excess can be exported by to the grid and you can be entitled to receive credit (as well as cutting down on your pollution caused in the process).
What if I want to keep my saved energy?
Solar power batteries, and indeed battery storage systems allow for excess energy generated to be stored at your home to be used for when required. There are a range of benefits that come with this, from emergency power in times of grid supply failure to simply storing energy for times of low demand. Either way, this means more money back in your pocket.
