Project
Overview

The MBi Shay is a sports stadium located in HalifaxWest Yorkshire.

The stadium opened in 1921, it is a home ground to four time Rugby League Champions Halifax R.L.F.C as well as semi professional football Halifax Town.

The stadium is owned by Calderdale Metropolitan Council, who is set to reduce its carbon emissions by at least 20% across a number of its buildings. The aim is to achieve an energy and water cost saving of around £150,000 per year.

Our
Solution

The Council has engaged energy giants SSE Enterprise Energy Solutions to improve the energy efficiency of its buildings.

A range of energy saving measures were introduced, including low and zero carbon technologies such as new efficient boilers, optimised ventilation and air conditioning equipment, LED lighting, Solar Panels, special software to manage ICT energy use (e.g. computers and printers) and water saving technologies.

Due to complexity of this project, Griff Services Ltd was appointed as a specialist contractor to install Solar Panel system onto trapezoidal roof of stadium.

What Were
The Results

Following a detailed survey, we worked on a delivery plan, and like in most cases we managed to complete our installation ahead of schedule.

Although this was only a small commercial Solar Panel system, the installation was difficult and consisted of tricky crane lifting, managing installers health and safety while working on a single sheet roof covering and finally battling against November’s harsh icy weather.

Overall, Ben Q SunPrimo 270W modules with SolarEdge inverters started to produce green energy from December 2017. The whole project was successfully delivered from start to handover in just 7 days.
